When Is the Best Time for Maternity Photos?
Our Experience
After 15 years of photographing expecting moms, we’ve noticed one clear pattern: the most beautiful and comfortable results happen around 30 weeks of pregnancy. That’s when the bump is perfectly round and visible — and you still feel light, flexible, and confident in front of the camera.
If you schedule too early, your belly might not be as defined (although there are exceptions, especially if you’re expecting twins).
If you wait too long, tiredness and swelling can make posing more difficult. That’s why we always recommend booking your session between 28 and 34 weeks.
Why It’s Important Not to Wait Too Long
Many of our clients tell us they thought about waiting “a few more weeks,” but later when they come back for their newborn session — they say they’re so glad they didn’t delay. Their bump looked perfect, their energy was great, and the whole session felt relaxed and enjoyable.
We always suggest booking in advance — our studio does over 180 sessions a month, and spots fill quickly. Booking early gives us time to plan your shoot, show you our gowns and fabrics, and make sure you arrive fully prepared, calm, and confident.
If You’re a Bit Late
Sometimes we get messages from moms at 35–36 weeks, and yes — we still create stunning photos. You might get tired a little faster, but we know exactly how to make it easy for you: gentle poses, flattering light, and a relaxed rhythm that keeps things comfortable
Every pregnancy is different. The most important thing is that you feel safe, confident, and cared for.
Our Advice
If you’re thinking about doing a maternity session — take a quick look at your calendar. If you’re around 28–32 weeks, it’s the perfect time. Don’t wait too long — this season is short and once-in-a-lifetime. Years from now, you’ll be thankful you captured it in photographs — real, emotional, and uniquely yours.
